Pagsanjan Falls and Lucban's Pahiyas

Philippines is known for fiestas ( fiesta is a Spanish word which means celebration or feast ) and falls. South Manila is a treat because the nearby provinces like Laguna and Quezon have both. With my bestfriends we travelled south to try Pagsanjan Falls' rapids and to experience Pahiyas, a feast celebrated in Lucban, Quezon honoring St Isidore the Laborer, Saint of the farmers.

We begun our journey around 6am from Sta. Rosa, Laguna to Pagsanjan. Along the highway is a long stretch of tall trees, a breath of fresh air.

Tip1: It's best to journey early in the morning, not much traffic and the road is not congested yet.

Upon entering the municipality of Pagsanjan, the view of the old arc welcomes the tourists.

The church of Flores de Maria has an interesting story why it was built, visit the church to know more about the inspiring story of faith.
Tip2: It's best to plan Pagsanjan trip during summer.
Tip3: Eat breakfast before going to Pagsanjan Falls for energy to stand the heat of the sun.
Tip4:There are several resorts in Pagsanjan but we did our research and decided to take Pagsanjan Falls Lodge and Summer Resort.

This resort also offers accomodation and caters for occasions as well. They also have changing room for the tourist. Plus the resort has it's own parking, important for car owners.

Tip5: Pay only at the cashier, ask for the receipt.
Tip6: Don't forget to wear your safety gears. Be prepared to be drenched in water.
Tip7: A particular highlight is the boatride, which passes through 14 rapids maneuvered by boatmen between rocks and boulders, leading to the main falls.
Tip8: The boatmen are very informative and they will discuss some reminders concerning safety.
Tip9: The nipa hut below is the river's tollgate, the fee is included in the payable amount at the resort so the guests need not to worry.
Tip10: Hold the handle bars in the boat only, do not rest your hands at the edges of the boat because it might be crushed between rocks and boulders.
Tip11: One boat can accomodate 3 persons excluding the boatman.
Tip12: Along the ride, there's one-stop snack hut  where the boatmen can rest for a while. It's nice to offer them some drinks because what they're doing is not easy.
Tip13: Don't forget to get some snapshot at the nearby little falls.

Tip14: Upon arriving at Pagsanjan Falls, there are boatmen who are assigned to take the guests under the falls by raft. Prepare for the strong current and hold on tight. Enjoy the ride!
You'll surely be drenched in water but it's all worth it.

After surviving the rapids, we drove to Lucban, Quezon. We went straight to Lucban church to see the decors made of veggies, fruits, handicrafts and kiping ( colorful rice wafers ).
Tip15: Wear your hats for protection from the heat of the sun and be ready for snapshots because the town is very colorful.
Tip16: Stroll around and see different street foods and products offered for cheaper prices.
Tip18: Always take care of your valuables because there are a lot of expectators.
Tip19: Experience the float parade to see how creative the locals are. Plus the cute mascots sponsored by a local food chain that most kids love.
Tip20: Don't pass the chance of trying pansit habhab, eating the noodles with a stick.
Tip21: Also, you can visit Kamay ni Hesus nearby and offer prayers.
